On July 24 I reached 88 years of existing on this planet, and this is a most important question that keeps coming to mind.
Where did Silence go? Maybe these questions supply the answer.
-
Are you so “informationally informed” that you have completely lost touch with the inner compass divine energy gave you as your birth-day present?
-
Are you ignoring precious moments of contact with nature’s powerful wisdom because they can’t compete with the ballgame coming from the device used at the beach or in a woodland park? A monotonous voice that drowns out life’s message carried on the waves, and the wisdom being relayed through bird song and wind in sighing pine trees?
-
Must you carry technology's endless chatter even into the forced, soul-welcome quiet of a long car trip?
-
What do you and your friends text about? Will it matter two years from now? Does it solve a real problem? Are you any wiser, or just “informed,” after your conversation?
-
Have you ever noticed the clay feet on a lot of the “idols” you rave about?
It seems to me that my daughter’s generation was the last generation that knew what silence actually was. Or how important it is to our general welfare.
Frankly, I’m glad I’m eighty-eight. I hope they’re right and a “new world” is now in the making. Maybe somewhere in the process people will become sufficiently crazy from the constant noise to demand that the first rule of the new world be: Reintroduce Silence!
But I doubt if anybody under the age of fifty even knows what I’m talking about.
